Bray Lake Watersports

Summer racing 2023

Bray Lake will once again be running its summer racing through 2023. Different races will allow seasoned racers and newcomers alike to hone their skills and set goals for bigger challenges in national races.

Who can enter the races?

Bray Lake races are open to all. You can be a complete novice to sup racing or a seasoned racer. There is something for everyone.

How are paddlers categorised?

The Bray Lake Watersports racing uses a Division classification system to categorise competitors. Your Race Division will be used throughout the series.

Why the Division System

Each Division is categorised by Time and speed, meaning you will compete with other paddlers of similar ability throughout the series. This system is also used in the wider UK SUP Racing scene.

What are the race divisions?

Your time over 2km is used to align to the below Divisions.

Division 1 – 13:29 and under

Division 2 – 13:30 – 14:59

Division 3 – 15:00 – 16:29

Division 4 – 16:30 – 17:59

Division 5 – 18:00 and over

How do I set my Division?

Paddlers must complete a 2km time trial on the board they use for the upcoming series or race. You must complete the Paddler Verification form to verify your 2km time and division. Full details on what you need to do can be found here.

Setting your Race Division

To enter the Summer Series events, you must set your Race Division by completing a 2km Time Trial using the same board you will race on.

You will need to provide us with evidence, such as a screenshot of your tracking or GPS device or by uploading the tracking log. If you change boards, you must complete a new 2km Time Trial and verification for this board.

Completing a 2km Time Trial

From a standing start, paddle 2km either by completing laps of a lake or an out and back route on a river or the sea. This ensures you don't get affected by wind and currents as best as possible.

It's important that you set the best time you can to ensure fair verification against your fellow competitors.

Submitting Your 2km Time Trial For Verification

Complete the form at the bottom of this page before entering the Summer Series events. Compare your time to your Race Divisions and select the correct one when entering. If you are unsure which Division you should be in, please message us through email or chat.
