About the Event

Are you looking to get into SUP surfing but don't know where to start? Or are you catching waves already but stuck with what to do next? Yes - well, this one is for you.

You will learn the techniques, skills and knowledge to confidently catch waves, be safe in the water and begin your surfing progression during our SUP Surf Camp.

So what will you learn?

Knowledge: Using forecasts, apps and reports to predict the best conditions, read the water, and understand the surf zone's hazards.

Equipment: Understand the basics of SUP surf equipment and how the right kit will help you progress quicker.

Different waves and breaks - how can you tell if it's a beach break? Are there rocks to avoid and understand why a particular wave is breaking as it is?

Techniques - How to catch and ride waves, what to do with the paddle, and how to start or progress your turns.

Skills - Position yourself to catch more waves. Get out back with confidence and teh basics of footwork to improve your surfing.

What equipment do you need or recommend?

Wetsuit - Surf wetsuits and boots are recommended. Bring two if you have them, so you have a dry option throughout the sessions.

Paddle Equipment - SUP Surfboard and paddle. We will have a couple of boards available if you need them so please get in touch.

Safety - As a minimum, a straight leash for surfing. If you have two, it's always wise to bring a spare.

Clothing/other items - Plenty of warm clothing as we will be mostly outside in an exposed location every day. A dryrobe or equivalent is highly recommended, as are flasks for tea & coffee etc. Waterproof options would also be recommended just in case.

Do I need to be a skilled paddler?

The camp is aimed at beginners in SUP Surfing and intermediate paddlers who are already catching waves. It would be best if you were a competent paddler, but there is no need to have any surfing experience. For those already catching waves, we will set goals for you to push your paddling further and progress your turns and skills.

What about the location and accommodation?

Depending on the clinic, we will typically look at North Devon (Croyde) or Cornwall (Newquay). Our SUP  Surf camps start at 9 - 9:30 am on both days, but a full schedule will be sent to you before arrival. Accommodation local to the camp will be recommended on the individual event description.
