Coastal Skills Weekend

26th & 27th March 2022

Welcome...
To our Coastal Skills Weekend

Take your paddling to the next level, learn to catch bumps and become more confident in choppy conditions.

An action packed weekend with two full days of skill sessions, knowledge learning and of course plenty of paddling.

Our Coastal Skills Weekends are designed to give you the confidence to get out and explore our coastlines, taking advantage of all the different environment's and conditions available.

Built upon our philosophy of keeping paddling simple, the skills and knowledge you will learn and develop over the weekend will transfer into all areas of your paddling.

We believe that every SUP area supports the other, so you shouldn't need to learn new techniques every time you try a new discipline of SUP.

So what can I expect over the weekend?

The full weekend will build your skills from foundation paddle and footwork techniques to applying these skills during practical sessions on the water.

What experience do I need?

These weekends are primarily aimed at competent or intermediate paddlers. You do not need to have any coastal paddling experience, but you should be able to stand on your board for prolonged periods of time confidently.

Do I need my own equipment?

Yes, please bring along your own paddling equipment. A full list of what you should bring is available here.

What clothing do you recommend?

As we will be doing lots of work both on the off the water, please bring a range of options with you. We recommend that you have multiple options of your normal paddling clothing so you can change as required. Please also bring along neoprene options, including wetsuits and additional layers if you have them. Please also bring a range of casual clothing and warm layers.

A full recommended list is available here.

What if I don't have something you recommend?

We work with multiple kit suppliers, including Bray Lake Watersports, who have dedicated clothing, accessories, and equipment shop. Please get in touch, and we can help you with any recommendations.

Further Details

Evening Meal Saturday 30th

On Saturday evening, the group will have the opportunity to eat out at a local restaurant. We appreciate that this level of social interaction may not be appropriate for some people, so there is no requirement to attend. As such, this meal will be at your own cost and is not included in your ticket price.

During the evening, whilst it is an informal gathering, we will, of course, be talking about the daily activities, what to expect on Sunday and how we can predict the conditions at a given coast.

Staying Overnight

Our primary location is expected to be around Ramsgate near the harbour and Western Undercliff beaches. Within a small radius, there are many options for accommodation from B&B's, campsites, to hotels. Other nearby locations are Pegwell Bay, Broadstairs and Margate.

For those with campervans, there are many spots locally where you can legally park overnight. We will recommend places depending on our expected locations over the weekend's activities.

Locations

The weekend will be based around the isle of Thanet, with our primary location being Ramsgate and the Western Undercliff beaches conditions depending. If conditions allow for a downwind route, then expect to drive/relocate to a nearby location along the north coast near Herne Bay or south towards Deal.

Conditions

This course is designed to utilise the conditions available over the weekend, including swells and waves, wind and currents. The isle of Thanet gives us multiple options to safely use the conditions without being overly exposed to the elements. As a very last resort, if conditions are not suitable, we will consider postponing the weekend.
